Welcome to Kelleys Island Genealogy, an archive of the genealogical history of Kelleys Island

To introduce myself, my name is Michael Beatty.  I am the great great great grandson of Ludwig Johann Bette, (Louis Beatty)  a German farmer who immigrated along with a total of 21 families in 1849 from Johannestal, Russia to Akron, Ohio.  By 1854 Louis had arrived on Kelleys Island, purchased land and began establishing vineyards.  By 1872, Louis had become a successful wine maker and a prominent member of the island's community.  He took his newly acquired wealth and returned to Johannestal.  However,  due to political tensions mounting in eastern Europe,  he was forced to return to Kelleys Island where he brought his two remaining sisters and their husbands.  My wife, Teri (Bianchi) is the grand daughter of Adamo and Guiseppina (Adam and Josephine) Bianchi,  Italian immigrants who made their way from San Marino, Italy in 1928 to Kelleys Island.

This collective repository of family data, as presented, is by no means complete and most certainly contains errors.  There is very little that is presented on this website that I can personally attest is, without a doubt, a true fact.  I have done my best to ensure the all of the information is accurate, to the best of my knowledge, and is supported by some type of documentation or source.  However, at times, assumptions have been made.  I say this not to discredit my research, but to acknowledge that at times, people aren't always truthful with what gets put on paper.  Even 'official' documentation gets mistraslated, or entered into a computer incorrectly.  If you find information to which you believe to be incorrect, I apologize in advance. In return, I ask that you utilize the various links on this site to contact me and offer your corrections.

A primary advatage to this website is that this family tree is a collaberative effort.  The best way for this tree to grow is through the efforts of the various genealogists that have put in countless hours researching their own ancestry.  My goal is to bring all of those genealogists together into this central location to share their research with their peers.

Registration to this site is not necessary to view data on deceased individuals.  All information on deceased individuals is open to the public.  Registration is only required if you are an individual in the tree, an ancestor of someone in the tree, or should be in the tree, and you wish to have access to information on close living realtives.  To protect the privacy of the living individuals in this tree, only people who have a connection to the tree will be approved.

Once registered, I can offer two types of membership, a "member" or an "editor."  By default, all accounts will be give basic member access, you will be linked to your personal record (it will be created if it isn't already there) and given access to your direct ancestors.  When registering, please make sure to note how, exactly, you fit into the tree filling in the details on missing individuals when necessary.  For example, if your grandfather is listed, but not your father, please provide your grandfather's name, your father's name and your name.  Information on any and all other family members is welcome.

By request, anyone who wishes to contribute to the tree can be given editor access.  As an editor, you will have the ability to add or edit any information in the tree.  Please note, all additions and edits will need to be approved before they appear.  Most of the information in this tree is supported by some kind of documentation. If you are signifcantly editing data, please provide a source to support that change.  I'm looking forward to your contributions.  Without your help, the growth of this tree is limited.

Please note that getting your account setup is a manual process on my part.  Please be patient with your registration and allow a few days.  If after a few days your account isn't working properly or you don't have access to areas you believe you should, please send me an email by clicking on the "for technical or genealogical support, please contact" link at the bottom of the page.

Please review the FAQ at right or above in the help menu for more information on registration requirements, benefits and for a recap of this sites strict privacy policies.  Also, if you have any "how do I" questions, please feel free to forward them to the email address prov

Regards,

Michael Beatty

Kelleys Island Story
Leslie Korenko has written several books about the history of Kelleys Island. She also added a Genealogy page to her site where people can look for family members with an island connection. At the bottom of that page, she lists places where you can research your roots for free (or mostly free). You’ll find MY website there. To help researchers, she also included the index to each of the Kelleys Island books – just click on 'What’s in the Book' to see if your family is mentioned.

I greatly enjoy the time I have spent researching the ancestry of Kelleys Island and engaging with other island researchers.  This website does not come free, however, as I have to pay for hosting costs.  If you would like to donate to help cover some of these costs, it would be greatly appreciated.  You can do so by CLICKING HERE
