Obituary KELLEYS ISLAND - Ronald Walter "Ronnie" Beatty, 69, who once served as Kelleys Island's fire chief, died July 7 in the Parkvue Health Care Center, Sandusky. Family members would not disclose the cause of death but said he'd been at the care center the last six weeks. Mr. Beatty worked with his father for many years as a commercial fisherman and also worked for the island's maintenance department. He most recently was an independent contractor on the island for the U.S. Postal Service. "He was well-liked by everybody," his sister, Mary Ellen Huntley, said. When he worked at the Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line, he was known affectionately as "Rosch on the Dock," Mrs. Huntley said. He lived most of his life on Kelleys Island, was a 1952 graduate of Kelleys Island High School, and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where was an usher. Mr. Beatty served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a member of the Kelleys Island VFW and AMVETS. He never married and had no children. Surviving are his sisters, Mary Ellen Huntley, Ila Dick, and Geraldine Bickley. There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Church here. David F. Koch Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family suggests tributes to the Kelleys Island Fire Department, EMS, or Michael's Church.
